November 2006 Trip to Chiapas!

So I know I have not posted for a couple weeks. Things have been really busy and I have not had much free time. Anyway I will make up for it today. As you can See I have posted 10 new pics from my latest trip to chiapas. I went with a group of Canadians that come on a field school to TTT and we were away for just under a week. Jeanette and my parents also came along, so that was lots of fun, kinda like a little free vacation =). Anyway I was quite happy with the pictures I got, there are way to many to post them all... so here are a few of them. The first pic as you can see is not so much a picture as a collage of images I took (I think its kinda interesting). Most of the other pictures are self explanatory so I dont really think I need to rant to much about them. The second pic however I find really interesting...I just really like the fact that this woman out in the middle of the mountains is SMSing... its a changing world!

This week in photos

Hey people,
Here are some pics I took this week, actualy all of them are from yesterday. I took some photos over the weekend but there was nothing I really liked so I wont bother with them. All the pictures are from in and arround the center except for the one of the kids (that one I shot at the salvation army). The photo of the woman and her handicap son I thought was quite powerful... I am sorry however that the foucus was not that good, I wanted to be discrete and I was in a hurry to get the shot.You will notice its on quite the tilt... I somehow figured it was apropriate to leave it that way. I am more and more starting to worry about the ethics of photography. On one hand human drama is always the most interesting subject... but on the other one never wants to be disrespectfull, but anyway I guess this is something everyone must struggle with in their own way. Anyway here you go. I took the photo of the kids at the salvation army because I went along with a some people who were doing a comunity service and I thought it may be a good oportunity. I again did not want to impose and make the kids pose or anything, but to my suprise they were thrilled about having their pictures taken... and I got so many cute pictures, I think ill get them printed out and take them to the home... I am sure they would really like that. I took these pics with my digital rebel by the way... the sony was just not doing it with the weird light.

Well things here in Merida have been a little crazy lately. There has been quite a bit of work to do at the school with the promotions and with the international students, and to be honest I am starting to feel a little burned out. Anyway I try to make time to get out from time to time and shoot some pics, as you can tell from my more recent posts I have been fairly good about it lately. So here is the most recent instalment. This was a fun day, mostly cause I was shooting with a different camera (Jeanette´s little Sony with the 12X optial zoom). Its pretty much a point and click but the shutter is really fast, and ofcourse the optical zoom is really nice... although I had some trouble with my focus (ofcourse). Anyway here are 3 pics from that day.

So it finally happened, I go t my house!

Yesterday I went down to the housing developer office thinger majiger (I am not yet down with home owner lingo) and I got the keys to my new house! (Small 2 bedroom) This is of course a very big deal and very exciting for anyone…. It’s my first house after all. How can I afford a house? Well acutaly bealeive it or not (for my international readers) here in Mexico there is a fairly good public housing plan whereby as a worker you are entitled to credits towards buying a little house. The interests are very low and you can pay off the mortgage over quite a long time… but since the payments are so small you may as well continue paying it off little by little. Anyway the house is in a development in a new suburb of Merida called Las Americas. Its kind of far from downtown… but not really, like 25 minutes or so…. And I know that is really not that bad, but I have been used to be just a 10 min drive from work for the past year… so this seams like a long commute to me. Anyway there is lots I have to do to the house before I am actually able to move in… so I don’t expect to actually be living there for at least a couple of months… although to tell the truth I am very anxious to do so. No pics yet, but ill upload some soon!

Holland/Norway for Xmas?

So this morning Jeanette and I went over to the imigration offices to have her tourist visa extended, this ofcourse is a good thing since this way she will not be deported from the country or anything nasty like that. Anyway Things are going pretty good, I am currently looking in to airplane tickets to Norway for Xmas. I am probably gonna be flying out of cancun and in to amsterdam... so if at all posible I would like to spend a couple days in Holland on my way up, horray for the mother country! Anyway this ofcourse has me very excited... you all know how hard it is for me to stay in any one given place for to long... but fortunately I never seem to have to, so that works out well I guess. Anyway things in Merida are good, although its been really really hot lately, even more so than usual I think... its getting really gross and I am very tirred of it... a couple weeks in europe will do me good and cool me off (probably to a chill since I dont really have much winter clothing anymore). But other than the heat things are going well, work is alright, although I often find myself quite borred with this... but ofcourse everyone gets borred at work. Blarghhh ok I dont have anything else interesting to say... so thats all for today

horray!!!! I may not die alone after all!!!

Well as you may have (or not) noticed, I have not really been posting that much lately. As you probably know Jeanette is now here in Mexico with me, and has been here for two weeks now. She will be staying till xmas but unfortunately after that she has to go back to Ottawa for her last semester at Carleton to wrap up her masters degree. Anyway things have been going quite well, although it is a bit of an adjustment to start living with somebody, especially a partner. I can’t be quite as slobish as I used to… but I guess that is a good thing. Anyway over all things are really good and we are very happy to be together. Jeanette is doing well, but she is of course a little home sick from time to time, but that’s understandable. I have also been busy because school is back in full swing… and ofcourse that means students to deal with so, oh well…. I guess they are a necessary evil hahahah just kidding. The house thing seems to be going well, any day now they are gonna call and be like… uhhhh your house is ready, you can now move in. So this of course has me excited but also a little impatient. Anyway I am not feeling particularly inspired today so I guess that’s all,

Teaching, mortgages & live in girlfriend

Ok ok… I am not panicking, but how the heck did this happen? Its and honest question… I would really like to know.

So last year I was still bumming around Europe… actually I think I may have been in Turkey or something… but anyway you get the picture, and now all this. I have no idea how things changed this fast… but its not like I am complaining. I am really grateful for the opportunity to be able to start paying off a little house, I am super excited about Jeanette arriving tomorrow and I think I will quite like this teaching thing (even though I am only doing it for 3 hrs a week… so meh). However that being said, maybe yea… a little freaking out is going on.

Sometimes when I get in to these panics I just wanna pack up and get the heck away from here! I have been obsessing for almost a year about just leaving everything and moving to Berlin for a few years, I mean I am still young…. I am still in my mid 20´s, I have tons, well maybe not tons… but lots of cool years which should be spent drinking and traveling care free through the world… well at least that is the way it SHOULD be.

In a way I guess maybe all this is good for me, and hopefully by the end of this year I will have a better idea of were I am at not only with Jeanette, but professionally, economically and all those other “allys´s” which grown ups have to worry about. The problem of course is that I am not quite yet a grown up. You may think that sounds obvious, or maybe silly… or perhaps just downright pathetic, but alas… it’s the way it is. LOOK AT me GOD… I used to hate people who would post BULLSHIT like this on their blogs…. As if anyboby other than like 5 or 6 friends actually took the time to read it… and of course they all know this anyway because I am constantly bitching about these issues at them personally. So on that note… sorry for wasting your time. Maybe in my next entry I will have something a little more fun like a picture of a cute wet kitten on a water slide, yes… that would be good
