well... thats that

Well the summer is all but over. I cant say it was particularly exciting or eventful… but it was not that bad. I went to the beach a few times, headed over to Cancun/playa 3 times… so I really do not have any reason to complain. Mike and I had a pretty good time in Cancun, we stated for 3 nights and drank like mad men. Cancun is looking really good…. They have really done a good job of fixing up after the hurricane. Anyway Mike went back home on Sunday and so did I. A friend from Austria is down in Merida visiting his family till mid next month… so I may have one last crazy party in me for this summer after all.

Jeanette will be arriving in Merida soon to, really soon… September 1^st soon! So I am of course really excited about that. We have not seen each other for over 4 months, but this time she is going to stay till xmas… so we will have lots of time to spend together. Anyway there is nothing else terribly interesting going on, so I think ill cut this one short.

Varieties of anoying gym jerks....

I have never really thought of myself as a particularly healthy person, but neither am I slob…. Sure I have a couple light vices…. And sure I don’t always feel as good as I would like to physically, but if I was to have to decide how in shape I am, taking in to consideration most of the people I see on the street every day… I am a freaking Roman god. Seriously, people are getting fatter every day… it blows my mind! And I am not just talking about Canada or the US, its everywhere…. even here in Yucatan. Ok, admittedly Yucatecans have never been a “slim people”, the regional cuisine although delicious is quite fatty and the portions are huge… not to mention the amazing dependence Yucatecans have and have had for about a half -century on coca cola (seriously, you should see how much of that brown water they can chug down in day)… but anyway I digress…. The point is I am just amazed how fat people are getting. Now I know this is not anything new… I have been hearing reports and amazing numbers and statistics about how unhealthy the average person is, however it was not until relatively recently that I really started to notice the exponential growth of over weight populations.

Wow…ok that kind of spun out of control, all I wanted to say is how fat people are getting, but anyway I digress.

So in the last few months I have been doing quite a bit of excersize… I have been running quite intensively (which I really enjoy) and a couple weeks ago I started going to the gym again (which I do not enjoy nearly as much). The nice thing about my new gym is that it is right around the corner from TTT (the place I work)… so its convenient, although the gym itself is not that great since everything is squashed in to a fairly small area, but oh well… it does the trick.

People at the gym are really annoying… there are the jerks who hang out there all day and just socialize. You know, the huge jackasses who are sitting on the machine you want to use…. And when you get close to ask them to please get up because you want to use them give you a look like they are gonna murder your ass... but oh well, you get them to move regardless. Then there are the really out of shape people who swear by god they are there every day when you are not, and excersize so much, and eat right… but they are for some astonishing reason immune to the laws of thermo dynamics and can therefore can not loose a pound. One of my favorites are the cardio queens, they are peppy and annoying as hell…. They yell at each other across the room and are constantly bitching and complaining about something, but at least some of them are alright looking. I really hate the really huge guys who use about 4 or 5 machines at a time…. And make sure to leave their towels and stuff on them so that you do not go near them. Of course when you do they kind of growl at you and much like the socializing jerks threaten to kick your ass. Anyway the point is that gyms are usually if not always mostly populated by amazingly annoying people who think they rule the world and don’t pick up after themselves or clear their gross sweat of the machines after they are done using them. Maybe part of the reason there are so many fat people in the world has something to do with how unappealing gyms usually are. Of course this is just my opinion and I am sure there are some great gyms out there which have music playlists that consist of more than a loop of tunes by Bannarama and that god awful song by Roby Williams (actually I think that covers most of them)… but regardless, in generally the gym is an annoying place to be… best you can do is practice the stoicism you learned from Spock and really crank up the volume on your mp3 player.

Wow, that was quite a rant… and I did not even get started with the stupid jerks who inhabit the magical land of the “track”….maybe some other time. Oh and by the way if you think you are one of those jerks I was talking about… errrr…. Ofcourse not, you are neat (please don’t kick my ass).

Back from debotcherry...

Well this last week was quite crazy, there is so much going on its really hard to put my finger on one single thing and think about it... things now a days just seem to really all bloob together in to this weird hermoneutical goo.

Last weekend was a realy good time, soples and I headed out to playa del carmen for a few days. We drank lots of beers and got lots of sun (have a nice tan going on), also we had lots of time to catch up on stuff since we are both quite busy these days and although we do get to see eachother fairly often its not for very long and we are usualy pretty hammered.

Anyway we stayed at this little hotel I always stay at, its really nothing fancy at all... but since I go so much the people there know me and always give me a really good rate... so really it works out great. Playa del Carmen is lots of fun but I kinda feel like its getting a little to snoby for my taste. It used to be that playa was really relaxed... you could just chill out and do what ever, wander in and out of bars and just enjoy the music... but things are getting to trendy now, lots of people seems to be way to over dressed for being at the beach, the clubs are starting to charge crazy cover charges and the drinks keep getting more expensive... but still, its a good place to hang out.

Fortuantely there are lots of other places to go hang out at the beach... Tulum and Puerto Morelos seem to be picking up the slack from playa del carmen... so lots of people are starting to flock to places like that. Also Ironicaly, having received a more than healthy dose of humily... Cancun is really starting to shape up again, and yea ofcourse its still partty central... but when I went there for a few hours this weekend I really got a very different vibe from the place... I dont know, maybe Cancun is turning a new leaf... but then again probably not. One thing I was hoping to acheive this weekend that did not really pan out was getting some rest... my body i so sore... my ancles and feet still hurt from all the abuse they have undergone at the track lately... so I think I should maybe go to a doctor and have them checked out... because I really want to get further with my running. Anyway now I am back at work, but fortunately I know I will be getting away again soon when mikes comes to visist... I am sure we will have a good time, but we are not yet sure were we are gonna go... cancun? tulum? playa? cuba?... I guess we will just have to wait and see. It is really amazing how fast this summer is going... although it has really not felt like much of a summer to me.

The good news is that Jeanette will be back in merida in a month.... so I am ofcourse quite anxious about that. I have really missed her and it ofcourse really sucks to feel lonely.... so I am pretty much counting down the days. Well I think thats all for now.... I will get thorough the rest of the day and then try to have a nice long nap... and if my feet allow me to... ill go for a run. Hopefuly next time I post ill have some interesting photos or something.

ok, lets give this thing a shot

So in my last entry I was complaining about how this blog does not really seem to have enough direction... well, ok, lets try to give it some. I am gonna try posting some photos uphere of what ever I happen to be photographing each week... chances are we are gonna get some really lame entries... since its not absolutely every week that I manage to take a pic that does not absolutely blow chunks... but oh well, its worth a shot. Anyway as you porbably know you can find some of my stuff up on my website (carlosrosado.com). There is tons of work to be done on that site.... but thats another project all together... however feedback is always apreciated, maybe some of these pics will end up on the site... oh well who knows. ok so lets give this a shot.

Ok, I took this picture in this field just out of town, you can´t really tell from the picture but this little blue flower was really really small... maybe just a couple centimiters across, however I guess I did a decent job of getting it in to focus... especialy without having a proper macro lends. In any case I thought it was kinda of a neat flower... I am trying to figure out what species it is.

This cactus looking... well cactus was taken just about 1 km away from the little blue flower above (in the same field). I think the image itself is pretty interesting and I like the way its cropped... also I was pretty happy with the way the light came through from the trees behind the cactus... it kinda looks like moisture, but they are actualy just little beams of light making it through the folliage. I think it was the best pic I took that day...
U took this photo a few days after my little trek to the fields outside Merida. Somebody told me that this looks like a lily-pad... and I guess it kinda does, but as you probably guessed, its actualy a couple eggs shells. I was making an omelete.... so I craked the eggs and I got distracted with them, there is just something kinda cool about egg shells (says I)... I have always been kinda interested with they way they respond to light... so I went to go get a lamp, put it over my cutting board... tinkered with the light color settings on the camera and got this shot. It was just a little experiment, but I think it looks kinda nifty.

Ok, well that was it... I hope it was not to lame, flowers, egg shells and cactus are probably not the most exciting subject matter... but oh well, I guess this sort of stuff will have to do for now. I am thinking about doing a project with fish...like buying a few at the market and atempting to do something interesting with them...maybe cut them open or something (a little gross I know), but oh well... maybe this weekend. Anyway thats ll for now.

this blog is more stale than... uhh, a really stale cheeto, see what I mean???

Well last weekend sure was eventful. Between the world cup final, TTT´s graduation, and all that beer… it sure went by fast. But anyway here we are, once again complaining about how awful Mondays are… its really getting quite tiresome; wouldn’t you agree? I mean seriously… nobody likes Mondays, but do we really need to complain about them every single week, no. I feel this blog is getting rather pointless so I am gonna either a) give it some kind of new direction or b) just stop doing it. Since I got back from Europe there is nothing really interesting to report anyway… or usually at least… so we will see how it goes. I have thought about maybe implementing the blog in to my website (carlosrosado.com) a little better so that the blog could serve as a record of my photographic adventures… and not just my gratuitous complaining. Any thoughts on this? Anyway my parents are going away to Europe in just a few days, so both Maggie and I are looking forward to five wonderful easy going weeks… or at least that is the plan, since the reality of these things never really ends up manifesting itself the way one would desire… but oh well. I have to confess that I am a bit on football withdrawal… no more world cup!!! This totally blows… I guess I am just going to have to find a new excuse to drink alone in front of the TV now =). I talked to Jeanette today, she seemed to happy and doing well in St. Petersburg… but she is getting anxious about returning to Mérida, which I of course am to. I am ofcourse a little freaked out about this whole Jeanette moving in thing, but I am also very happy about it… I think that in the long run it will prove to be a good decision… but then again it could blow up in my face and just be the worst thing ever… although I really don’t think it will. So anyway yea… not the most coherent blog entry ever, but they never seem to be anyway. Ill post again soon, and hopefully by then I will have a little bit of a better idea regarding what I want to do with this blog in the future.

Lonely =P

Well Jeanette went to Norway on monday... she will be there for a couple weeks and then she is heading over to Russia for about 2 months... and then she will come back to mexico september 1st... so till then I will probably just be sulking hehehe. Anyway I dont really have time to sulk... there has been plenty of work arround here. There are some delegates in merida from some collages in the states and canada... so there are many things i have to do.... many meetings, so on and so foth. Tomorow I have to go to Campeche for a couple days of meetings, but at least I will be staying at a decent hotel with a nice pool... so thats no so bad I guess. Also I got a new camera, a Canon Digital Rebel XT... and its super sexy. I cant wait to have some real time so I can go out and shoot... but I guess that will have to wait for now. Anyway thats all for now.

Have I mentioned that its hot?

Well this last week was quite slow, Jeanette and I had to go to Chetumal for promotions… it did not go very well, the little punks over there do not seem to be very interested in anything really… but oh well, I did what I had to do. Chetumal is pretty boring, there is really nothing to do… the city is seriously lacking good places to eat and stuff, but at the very least the cabs are cheap. Jeanette and I went in to Belize just to see what was up and it was quite sketchy… although it seem like quite an interesting country. The official language in Belize is English but most people (specialy near the boarder) speak Spanish.. Although you also hear Chinese… which is kind of weird. The English over there is really bizarre to, I think they actually call it Creole or something like that… either way it’s weird. This next while is gonna be quite busy, there is going to be a group of teachers coming from Canada and the States next week so there are several thing I have to do before then. It has been really nice to spend so much time with Jeanette lately, its gonna suck when she is away in Russia for 3 months, but oh well… I am sure I will have my fun. Anyway that’s all for now I guess… ttyl.

I hate getting up at 3.30... ewwww

You know how when you get up to early your eyes refuse to open and your eyes are more purple and black than a 1940´s house wife with no skills in the kitchen??? Yea, me to.
Well I am at the airport... Jeanette and I had to get up at 3.30 to get here on time and you all know how much fun it is to get up so early, specialy when you are going to the airport. Anyway it will be nice to get home, I am really looking forward to just resting in my own apartment and enjoying the weekend. Yesterday Jeanette and I went to see the Catherine the great exibit at the museum of contemporary art in Montreal... it was quite cool, but for 15 bucks it better had been! Anyway it was quite nice to be in Canada these last 2 weeks... although things did not really go the way I planed... but then again they never seem to anyways. I am kinda pissed cause I was not able to buy my camera.... perhaps I will just pick it up in mexico... or who knows. This gate area does not seem to have a tim hortons, what the hell is up with that. NO I DO NOT WANT YOUR GOD DAMMED STARBUCKS!!!! GOD!!! I HATE YOU, YOU ARE NOT MY REAL DAD ANYWAY! *SOBS*. Yea... so as you can tell I am quite tirred, but at least the wireless internet is working... I am not sure were the signal is from but at least I am not paying those bastards at BELL for my conexion... why would you pay for it if there was a free one also? ... oh well, what ever... I am just thankful for it. Well... I guess thats it for now, to all you guys in Montreal thank you very much and I hope to see you all in Merida very soon.
