Puuc Valley (December 2008)

Yesterday Steve and I made our way to the puuc valley to photograph the jungle and some of the archaeological sites (Xlapac, Sayil and Kabah). It was a good time; we shot a bunch of photos, had a good trek and had a nice meal. Anyway here are the pics.

Large rain god mask on facade of temple in xlapac

There are not that many restored structures at Xlapac, but they have ceirtanly been working at it... last time I was there there was only one, now they have fixed up 3 different buildings, hopefuly there will be more

Slightly desaturated image of the jungle in Sayil

Some flowers growing near the main structure at Sayil

An archway leading to the Sacbe (ancient mayan road) which conects Kabah with Uxmal

I love the rain forrest :)

San Ignacio Hacienda

This morning Dan, Steve and I got up good and early and decided to go shooting. We ended up going to San Ignacio... a small town with an abandoned hacienda about 15 km north of Merida on the highway to Progreso. The town itself is quite run down but shows quite a bit of potential, its actualy quite a nice little place. Anyway here are some of the photos I took.

Old hacienda chimeney

Section of the facade of the old mill

Chruch arch

These guys were quite cooperative, they just kinda stood there and let us shoot

Its amzing were things can grow

This section of the abandoned hacienda was probably the school house, but its kinda creepy now

Lights and shadows doing interesting things in the early yucatecan morning

shot of the church at San Ignacio

This last photo was not taken at San Ignacio, but rather in downtown Merida, in a old house where you can buy antique furniture. In case you are wondering the spider is not real, its a bizzare door knocker... I placed it up there.

Mayan Archaeology Bites pt.1 (The "Rio Bec Region")

I finally have a computer that is not dreadfully slow at home, so I have been playing around a little with video editing. I decided to make a little video just to figure out how to use the software and this was the result. Hope you enjoy (the vid is in widescreen, I think youtube has made this configuration global… but if you get some black borders that is probably why).

The week in photos

Hi all, first off... My show at Mercers finished up at Mercers yesterday, however I will still have 5 pieces up until January as part of a exhibition of all the artists who have shown there this past year. Also my exhibition at Cafe Chocolate is still going on, as is my participation at the "tiempo y espacio" exhibit at the city gallery... and ... if you happen to be at the airport, keep your eyes open because I have some 16 x 20s up there as well.

Anyway here are some shots I have taken over the past week or so around merida, campeche and dziblichaltun.

Shot this off the malecon in Campeche

I really like how this little fish in a cenote is smiling at me as I take his picture

Does anyone know what this bird is called? It sure has a strange looking head

Nice shot of the Tho bird (not sure what its called in english)

Anyway that's all for now! check back soon!

First off, thank you very much to everyone who made it to the show at Mercers last night, I was very happy with the turn out. The 18 photos will be on dispaly for a month, so if you did not make it you still have a chance to check it out.

Anyway, last week I had some work to do in Campeche, and on my way back Aris and I stoped by a couple villages, Pomuch and Uman. Anyway here are some of the shots from that day... hope you enjoy.

Pyramids, birds and funky looking flora

So yea, the blog post title is fairly self explanatory. I took most of these photos yesterday at Uxmal… and a few others at cuzama and a few other places. I tried taking photos at the “luz y sonido” at Uxmal, but since they don’t let you bring in a tripod… its quite hard. Oh well… I think I still got a couple decent shots.

I forgot to mention in the last post that I also have a 16x20 on exhibit at the Merida city art gallery… its in the “Tiempo y Espacio” exhibition, so if you have a chance you may like to go check it out. Anyway That’s all for now.
