Celestun...

Ah, Celestun. There are not many places on this planet I enjoy more than Celestun. Awesome beaches, great sea food, lots of beautiful birds... what is not to like? Last week my parents, Jeanette, Emma and I took up an invitation by Valerie Pickles to visit her new condo in Celestun for the day. Emma had a great time frolicking in the ocean with her grand parents and Valerie prepared a really nice meal for us. It was a really nice and relaxing day. I am thinking about taking my bike up to Celestun during the summer and exploring a bit more of the coast... I hear nearby Isla Arena in Campeche is really beautiful.. Anyway hope you enjoy the photos!

Chacmultun and Limones

It has been quite a few months since I last posted and much has happened since then! Jeanette, Emma and I are more settled in to our life in Mérida and although the heat over these past few weeks has been just awful, over all things have been going quite well. I have been away on a couple business trips here and there, but for the most part I have been quite content staying put in Mérida. Between my job and Emma there have not exactly been tons of opportunities to get out and do tons of photography but in the past few weeks I have managed to get away a little here and there. This short (very short) series of photos are from the archaeological site of Chacmultun (in the Puuc) and Limones (in southern Quintana Roo). I have posted photos of Chacmultun before, but the pyramid at Limones (and yes there only is one) is new to me. I noticed it just off the highway on my way to Chetumal and cold not help pulling over and climbing it. Its really quite an amazing site from the highway. It also does not hurt that locals have set up a little eatery right behind the pyramid... as they say "solo en Mexico!". Unfortunately all other structures which would have conformed the plaza have been destroyed, but the arquitectural style is very similar to that of nearby Chacchoben. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos!
